20. Day Baths

Bird song and Hockney shadows

A day bath is one of my favourite things, and the most luxurious perk of being self-employed. When I designed our bathroom I put a long clear window at bath height for just this activity (no we’re not overlooked).

A bath with the window open, birds singing, fresh garden air on my face, and the afternoon sun casting shadows on the wall. A mug of tea on the windowsill. Perfection.

My younger self would be rolling her eyes, but now this is my idea of a good time. The thin slats of the blind create shadows that remind me of a 70’s Hockney drawing.

A day with enough time for a day bath is a good day.
